Summary: We rely on maps everywhere in our daily lives, and their uses are constantly evolving in our rapidly changing world. Cartographics: Designing the Modern Map is a collection of maps that tread off the beaten path of mapmaking and redefine exactly what a map can do. Two sections, "Mapping the Physical Environment" and "Mapping Human Activity," feature maps that depict a wide variety of themes; some incorporate strategies from infographics, such as one that uses abstract depictions of public transportation lines to display riders' travel patterns as well as physical features, while others use traditional strategies to explore contemporary subjects such as geopolitical maps of fictional countries in video games, gentrification in Brooklyn, or the geology of Great Britain. With hundreds of innovative maps from cartographers around the world, Cartographics ushers in a new and advanced age of mapping in which technological innovation, observation, and artistic vision are linked as one
