Global human emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and several related chemicals may reduce the concentration of stratospheric ozone and, in so doing, may induce significant negative effects on human health and a variety of economically important activities. For the United States and the world as a whole, this report describes current patterns of use and projects future production levels for the seven most important potential ozone depleters: CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113, carbon tetrachloride, methyl chloroform, Halon 1211, and Halon 1301. The projections are based on detailed analysis of the major applications of these chemicals.
