In: Springer eBooksSummary: In recent years, various new techniques of minimally invasive thyroidectomy have emerged. These include approaches to the thyroid from the neck, the axilla, the breast, the retro-auricular space, and even the mouth. This book describes the different techniques and approaches in detail, and presents the equipment required to support minimally invasive thyroidectomy, including intraoperative monitoring and energy devices. In addition, the basic preoperative techniques that are a prerequisite to successful thyroidectomy, such as the ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration biopsy techniques, are presented, and individual chapters are devoted to thyroid pathology, complications, outcomes, and post-thyroidectomy quality of life. Important related topics are also discussed, including guidelines for managing papillary and medullary thyroid cancer and the surgical management of metastatic lymph nodes.   The editors of Minimally Invasive Thyroidectomy are internationally renowned endocrine surgeons, and the authors include founders of the techniques described as well as other distinguished pioneers and specialists. The clearly presented, up-to-date text and the many color pictures and medical illustrations make the book very user-friendly and ideal for the busy surgeon or endocrinologist who is interested in the management of thyroid diseases.
